Swaping Saves You Money, Helps your Neighbors and Promotes Plant Health
For most of human history people have exchanged plants, animals, ideas and any number of things. But to bring the question back into the 21st century, every plant or item exchanged between individuals saves precious dollars and cents that could be used for other home improvement needs. Also, on a more personal level, giving makes you feel good. Imagine, traveiling through Philadelphia area neighborhoods with the knowledge that you gave something to enhance another person's home, a community center, nieghborhood park, playground or traffic circle. In addition to the obvious economic value and the warm feeling we all get from sharing, most plants and flowers benefit from being thinned out and quickly rebound. Remember, their goal is to reproduce and spread their kind. By breaking up massive clumps of Hosta, Iris and thinning out groups of Lamb's Ear and Fern you are promoting vigorous growth for the remaining plants while providing an opportunity for the thinned out plants to be integrated into new beds with ample space to grow and thrive.
